If you found yourself driving by the corner of Melrose & La Brea yesterday, you saw a guy painting the information you see above on our front window. Nice guy. I have his number if any of you need him. Did a great job. But that’s not the point. The point is, there are BIG changes coming to G1988.
After 9 years at 7020 Melrose Ave, the location where it all began, we will be moving down the street to 7308 Melrose Ave (a location many of our buyers will remember as the old Munky King, while some of our looser clients will know it as next door to Darkroom). It’s walking distance, and about double the size. It’s also a bit more in the mix of Melrose, a shopping district, so we expect some new customers just walking in. We’re so excited to get some more breathing room (and our own offices) and start a whole new legacy, just a few blocks away.
But don’t say goodbye to us on the corner of Melrose & La Brea just yet. In the next few weeks, our Venice shop will close its doors and move over to 7021 Melrose, directly across the street from our original location. We’ve had that space for awhile (we had Luke Chueh’s book release there, Dave Pressler’s recent exhibition and the very crowded Marvel Avengers event there), but now it will be a full fledged gallery, taking over for the Venice location. So in short, we are doubling up on Melrose, the street we owe so much to. Without it, we’d have desk jobs.
We will miss Venice. It was an inspiring and positive location, which helped us have our most successful year yet in 2012, but we just feel more at home in Hollywood, and opportunities like our new collaboration with The Academy Awards keep popping up, and those are best produced on Melrose. Thank you to every customer who came to Venice (as I know the Westside for some people is like a road trip to Italy - me included), and we hope you follow us to 7021 Melrose.
